In 2022, against all odds, he re-recorded 200 songs before a stroke struck on Dec 18, 2022. Born in Qullissat - Grew up in Uummannaq, Greenland, Lars's musical roots run deep, jamming with Moon Jam and contributing synth solos for renowned bands. He also played in the Swedish band "Naked Truth" and, shortly before his exit from the scene, auditioned for Pretty Maids in the fall of 1990. During the mid to late 80s, he had a secret band that played Depeche Mode covers at high schools.
Musical Influence and Revival
The narrative unfolds as Lars shares his early musical exploits with childhood companion Peter Leibhardt. Sent 3000 miles away to Denmark at 14, the passion for music endured, resulting in the creation of over 800 songs during the 80s. Concurrently, Lars coded for international companies around the world, earning a substantial salary. His coding career included work for the Swedish Military, with stints in Dublin during "The Troubles," Montreal, Frankfurt, Stockholm, Copenhagen, and the U.S.
At 58 (2021), Lars received a complete home studio as an early gift from his wife & daughter, reviving a musical past. Despite a stroke, he remains steadfast in releasing music crafted before adversity struck. Legacy and Personal Life
A huge Phil Lynott, Thin Lizzy fan as well as Saga who inspired Lars Willsen throughout his teens. Rainbow & Deep Purple are some of the most treasured in Greenland. His teacher in one of the northernmost parts of arctic Greenland brought 10cc, Jethro Tull, Uriah Heep with them from Europe and definitely also sources for Lars Willsen.
In 1999, Lars was granted immigration to Canada (Vancouver), but a twist of fate led him to meet his future wife at a memorial concert for a friend who died in a paragliding accident. She picked him up sometime in late 2000, at which point he had only the clothes he was wearing and a guitar, having lost everything else in a fire.
